The modern kitchen isn't simply a place to cook in; it's a place to entertain in and to spend time with your children. If your kitchen is a dead space that you only use for cooking and cleaning , perhaps it's time to consider revamping it, so that it is becomes an inviting family room and a place to entertain your friends as well.
The key to the modern kitchen is combining the old and the new into something that is functional and warm. Modern stainless steel fixtures and marble counter-tops blend very well with natural tones and colours. Contemporary tap fixtures have become an art form; no longer do you have to settle for the same tap fixtures throughout your house. Contemporary fixtures have sharp, clean lines and smarten up even the drabbest kitchen.
Contemporary Kitchen Stools
The island kitchen is the best for entertaining; consider installing a dark-grey toned marble top in the centre of your kitchen, which you can use as a cooking space, or transform into a place for coffee or meals. Remember that synthetic materials are your friends in functionality; engineered stone looks natural but is more durable and easy to clean. Comfortable and functional bar stools are essential to let your guests feel like they can kick back and relax and enjoy your cuisine. Again, clean lines and steel or aluminum legs work well on bar stools, but they should be well padded and covered with natural-toned linens or cottons. Alternatively, keep all your fixtures modern but balance out the look with a farmstyle varnished wooden table and chairs in the middle of the room.
Although free-standing furniture can work well if used carefully, you can maximise functionality with an integrated design that will banish the problem of annoying nooks and crannies that gather dust. Floor-to-ceiling kitchen cabinets can be installed; use light wooden sliding doors, or alternatively glass doors that will brighten up the space.
Remember your walls are your biggest canvasses for décor, and they draw the eyes, so it's important to carefully consider the colours you use. Earthy oranges and reds instantly brighten up a room and make it look more homely and also go well with minimalist fixtures and features that help to tone down the bright colours. If you are more conservative in your approach try for beiges or light browns.
Add a few pot plants and aromatic herbs that you can use for cooking or a shelf of the latest colourful cooking books and the effect is complete. Before you know it your kitchen will be the hub of the household, and a hive of fun activity.
